The Chocolate Pizza Company - Marcellus NY

In 1986, I applied for a business certificate to begin a career in "crafts" - making spice wreaths and flower arrangements in my basement. After two years, I opened a store called "A Touch of Spice" in my father's polebarn located 1 1/2 hrs. away in Norwich, NY. After struggling to continue my journey every day to hang onto a business that was not making any money to support it, with tears in my eyes and a broken heart, I closed the store. I returned to my basement when I was approached to open a tiny little store in The Crown Mill in Marcellus. After a year in this location, the building was declared "unsafe" and was closed down. Once again, I returned to my basement but decided to focus on a new idea - "giftbaskets". Soon people began asking for "chocolate" baskets, and I could not find chocolate to satisfy my taste. I decided to purchase the well known "Cummings Candy" business, produced in Marcellus since 1919 when Martha Jane Cummings bought a $5 candy-making kit.

This upset her mother because she said it was a waste of money; but by 1921, she had 50 people working for her and was shipping the Almond Butter Crunch all over the world. (This is the same Crunch recipe that we use in our Chocolate Pizzas today.) I now needed a place to make the chocolate .

In 1991, I moved into Mike's MillWorks located on Rt. 175 where I started to produce "chocolate pizzas." By 1992, this became too small to produce and sell. I then moved to a larger location and changed the name to "The Chocolate Pizza Co." In 1998, it also became too small; and we moved again a little further down South St.. At this time, we decided to add "Wings" to go with our pizzas. Those pizzas & wings have become our best sellers - they are still made exactly the same today!

And, of course, we had to move one more time ..............so we could add "gelato" (an Italian ice cream) to our menu!!
