The Chocolate Pizza Company has been in business in Marcellus, New York, since 1988 when its founder, Bonnie Hanyak, opened what she thought would be a gift basket business.  Looking to add to her offerings, Bonnie soon began to make chocolate.  In 1992, she created the company’s now famous "chocolate pizza" by blending premium chocolate with a delicious English toffee from a 1919 Marcellus candy recipe and pouring it into round “pizza” shapes.  She topped the "pizzas" with almonds, pecans, walnuts and a white chocolate drizzle and served them in a genuine pizza box.  The "chocolate pizza" was an instant success and drew fans from all across the country. 

Over the years, Bonnie expanded her chocolate line-up; introducing a white chocolate pizza with cranberries and almond slices, a rich, dark chocolate pizza and of course her famous “wings.”  The wings became the obvious companion to the chocolate pizzas and are made from fresh, locally produced potato chips, covered in peanut butter and dipped in chocolate.  “Pizza and wings” became The Chocolate Pizza Company’s top selling treats and attracted national attention when Food Network’s hit show, Unwrapped, came to Marcellus to do a feature on the company.

Today, The Chocolate Pizza Company still produces irresistible chocolate from its hometown facility in Marcellus.  New owner, Ryan Novak, took over in July 2010 when Bonnie retired but he is no stranger to the business, having started working at The Chocolate Pizza Company when he was 15. He has a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management. A Marcellus native, he is building on the very successful foundation the company laid down over years. 

Ryan has grown the business into an emerging national brand with products now sold in more than 500 locations across 38 states. Chocolate Pizza Company opened a second store location in Manlius, New York in 2010 and a store in Shelton, Connecticut in 2012. It plans to open a fourth location in Cincinnati, Ohio in January 2013.
