Ryan grew up in Marcellus and graduated in the top 20 of his class from Marcellus High School. Ranked by ESPN as #26 place kicker in the country, he became the first Marcellus football player in 40 years to make a Division 1A football roster when his skills earned him a spot on the team at Syracuse University. He graduated in May 2011 from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management with a bachelor's degree in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises (EEE). He was honored on Whitman School of Management's Wall of Fame (2014), served on Whitman's Alumni Board and stays active in Syracuse University affairs. Ryan was honored in 2012 with a "40 Under Forty" Award, recognizing him as one of the top young professionals in Central New York. He supports several area charities and the Marcellus varsity football team, plays alto saxophone and watches out for his younger brother, Connor.

Ryan started working at the Chocolate Pizza Company when he was 15, washing dishes and mopping floors. He learned every facet of the business, telling the owner that when she wanted to retire he wanted to own the company. At 21, he realized that dream, buying Chocolate Pizza Company with a vision to make it a national brand. Since 2010, he has quadrupled sales and wholesales products to more thousands of retailers across the country including Hallmark, Kinney Drugs, Sheetz and many more.

In October 2015, Ryan opened an 8,500 square foot production and retail facility on 6 acres just minutes from the company's Marcellus village roots.
